At the age of 14, John joined Rousel Signs as an apprentice signwriter, where well-known artists Roy Rousel and Stanley Denford encouraged and cultivated John’s early interest in Art. An interest that progressed rapidly into a passion as he pursued Art, tutored by Graeme Inson using the Meldrum principles of Tonal Impressionism.
John has since become a well-known artist with his work represented both nationally and overseas. He is widely recognised as a Tonal Oil Artist, specialising in Still Life and Landscape paintings. Over many years,he has pursued a variety of subjects for which renowned, such as Marine and Streetscape works.
John is a multi-award-winning artist, gaining many First Prize and Best in Show Awards. He has also provided tutoring to many artists throughout his career, as well as tutoring with larger established art programs. Students of John now abound in the exhibitions and can gain recognition for their competence and skills.
John has adopted a large number of roles throughout his art journey and is currently President and Fellow of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. He is also a former President and Life Member of the Drummoyne Art Society, inaugural President of the Combined Art Societies of Sydney and Fellow of the Australian Society of Artists.
