Born in Tehran, Iran, and currently based in Sydney, Australia, Morvarid Dastjerdi is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey spans painting, cinema, theater, and fashion design. She holds a degree in Film Directing and has extensive experience in visual production for both stage and screen. Her years of designing handmade evening and bridal gowns in her family’s couture atelier have profoundly shaped the compositional and aesthetic sensibilities that define her painting practice today. Her relationship with painting began in childhood, when abstract image-making became a way to explore her inner world and give form to imagination. During her university years, she studied foundational courses in visual arts and color theory, which led to her early participation in student group exhibitions. After years immersed in film and theater, she returned to her first passion—painting—and has pursued it professionally ever since. She later refined her technique under the guidance of acclaimed instructors and has completed numerous commissioned works for private collections and commercial spaces. Now based in Sydney, Morvarid continues to expand her artistic practice. She is currently presenting her first solo exhibition, *In the Flow of Light*, at Palangi Gallery. Curated by Farideh Zariv and inaugurated with a talk by Dr Nasser Palangi, the exhibition marks a defining new chapter in her career. Working primarily with acrylics, gold leaf, mirrors, and mixed media on relatively large-scale canvases, Morvarid creates luminous and immersive compositions that merge abstraction with a refined decorative sensibility. Her works draw inspiration from Eastern philosophy and mysticism, often exploring themes of inner light, unity, and consciousness. Circular forms frequently appear as recurring symbols of infinity and wholeness—echoing her meditative approach to both creation and perception. With a visual language rooted in light, form, and rhythm, Morvarid constructs contemplative environments that invite viewers not only to observe, but to participate in the unfolding dialogue between presence and transcendence.
